MERRI SUGARMAN
Next          Previous          Back

Formerly a theater actress ('Les Miserables', 'Aspects of Love') and Voiceover Artist, Merri migrated West nine years ago where she quickly made a name for herself at Liberman/Hirschfeld, then Liberman/Patton Casting, working on such shows as "NewsRadio", "The Larry Sanders Show" and the Miramax feature film "Playing By Heart", starring Sean Connery and Angelina Jolie. In 2000, Merri went to Dreamworks Studios where she was the Casting Executive in charge of TV Pilots and Series- including "Spin City", the critically acclaimed "UnDeclared" and "The Job", starring Denis Leary. Not too long after that, Merri was offered a position as the Director of Casting for Dramas and Movies at ABC Television, overseeing the casting of "Alias", "NYPD Blue", "Once and Again", "The Practice" and the 'made for television movies’ "Gilda Radner - It's Always Something" and "The Music Man", starring Matthew Broderick and Kristen Chenoweth, to name just a few.

In December of 2002 Merri amicably left ABC to pursue teaching and coaching actors in NY. Using different formats - her work focuses on 'the business of the business' - and includes cold readings, mock general interviews and info. on agents, managers and casting directors. Her classes are designed to give students the honest side of what to expect in a given professional situation. Actors are guaranteed a safe, non-threatening environment in which to work. They will leave with a confidence and knowledge gained that will prove not only practical but invaluable.

"We must function as artists through our craft of course - but also through commerce..."
